Holy Spirit rests upon us Isaiah 11:2
OUTPOURING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
ACTIVITY - Be actively zealous to receive the gifts. This is how the Holy Spirit helps us. This is the empowering Jesus talked about.
Pursue love, and desire [Gk zeloo, be zealous] spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 1 Corinthians 14:1
But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants, I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy … and it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’ Acts 2:16-21
The 3 settings (Joel 2:28-32)
*Prophecy – edifying outcomes
*Dreams – movies
*Visions - pictures
The menorah is a seven-branched candelabrum that has been a symbol of Judaism for centuries. It originated in the ancient Hebrew Bible, where it is described as the lampstand used in the Tabernacle and later in the Temple in Jerusalem. The menorah is a symbol of the Holy Spirit.
The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him,
The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The Spirit of counsel and might,
The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. Isaiah 11:2
The seven gifts that help us (Isaiah 11:2)
*Holy Spirit rests upon us
*Gives us wisdom
*Gives us understanding
*Gives us counsel
*Gives us might (strength)
*Gives us knowledge
*Gives us fear of the Lord (awe and wonder of God)
There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. 1 Corinthians 12:4-11
The nine gifts to serve others (1 Corinthians 12:4-11)
*Word of wisdom
*Word of knowledge
*Faith
*Gifts of healings
*Working of miracles
*Prophecy
*Discerning of spirits
*Different kinds of tongues
*Interpretation of tongues
The Holy Spirit distributes to each one individually as He wills and He uses thses gifts to build up and edify.
Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4
Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 1 Corinthians 14:1
After the Holy Spirit and fire (Matthew 3:11) has rested upon you afresh, it is common to be given a hunger and thirst for things, a desire is put in your hearts. We desire the spiritual gifts.
Some things you hunger and thirst for may be:-
· For a quiet place where you can be in silent stillness with the Lord (create one yourself)
· To place what you have to offer into a bread basket offering for Jesus to multiply
· To have a servant heart
· To walk in the Spirit
· To share in the compassion Jesus has for others.
· To join a sacred assembly.
· To know God better
· To live your life in Pasture
· To worship the Lord in the ‘Secret Place of the Mot High’
· To prophesy
· To intercede for others
· To know Scripture better
· To witness to Jesus on the streets
· To want unity, to be one Body.
· To want to be instrumental in helping the realisation of Isaiah 61:1
· To hunger to save lost sheep
· To have a more intimate personal relationship with the Lord.
ACTIVITY – Through prayer be empowered to be a witness to Jesus. Sow seeds, labour for the harvest, and most of all be available for others.
The spiritual landscape is restored for salvation and deliverance. The living water that flows from the House of the Lord in silent prayer is magnified many fold to give us Pasture.
And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, as the Lord has said, among the remnant whom the Lord calls. Joel 2:32
There are two calls here. One is from us individuals, ‘whoever calls on the name of the Lord’. The second is ‘whom the Lord calls’.
It is becoming increasingly evident that the Lord is calling on people to repent and believe. They are increasingly coming to us on the streets. And then they call on the Lord to be saved.
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,
And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort all who mourn,
3 To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” Isaiah 61:1-3
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. Acts 1:8
In a situation where we are praying for someone to receive, for example healing, we are God's ‘postmen’ delivering the package, the gift is for the one prayed for, they receive the gift from the Holy Spirit.
God is delivering people from this world into Pasture by empowering us.
‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ Matthew 27:35-40
He just wants us to be a presence as His witnesses. God uses ordinary people to do ordinary things which He magnifies. He wants us to make ourselves available.
And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. Acts 2:47
